I would highly recommend you step up to the lower end Lincoln's or Hobart's that are in the $300-500 range. In short this machine will likely frustrate you if you want to actually learn how to weld well. The leads are also always live, meaning it is easy to give your self a shock or arc flash, and it was also quite disconcerting how hot the plug got while not pushing the machine at all. Additionally the wire feed mechanism is terrible and will probably break eventually, but not before giving you plenty of annoyance. The main problems are it has a paltry duty cycle causing it to overheat easily, and the arc is very inconsistent even when it is not overheating. After a day of welding with this thing, in my opinion it is a piece of crap that may turn people off to welding. I actually used it to weld up a bit of 1/8" wall tubing for a project to test it out. I will say this about the Harbor Freight machine, it is worth what I paid for it. I have been welding for over 20 years, and earned my living in part by getting metal to stick together with Oxy, Stick MIG and TIG. I have owned and welded with machines from a variety of manufacturers that run from the Home Depot models to those that cost in the thousands.
